DFG 20th Anniversary

DFG 20th Anniversary 2015

The Dorset Fungus Group was established in the village of Lychett Matravers on 1st October 1995 by a small group of enthusiasts wanting to further their knowledge and share their interest of fungi. Originally the Purbeck Fungus Group, the more encompassing name was adopted in 2003 as members from all over Dorset joined up.

On September 27th 2015, the DFG celebrated its anniversary by way of a morning foray at the very first place it visited back in 1995, Sherford Bridge, in Wareham Forest. This was followed by an afternoon meal supported by almost 40 members at The Rose and Crown, Lychett Matravers, the pub in which the group was actually born.

Mark Pike (right) was awarded ‘Lifetime Membership of the DFG’ for his first twenty years of  service by the Chairman, Roger Armstrong.

The DFG has since gone from strength to strength, and is now a firmly established concern for identifying and recording fungi in the county of Dorset. The group holds regular Sunday morning forays from late August through to early December, and offers various other functions throughout the year.

New members are always more than welcome.
