A FEW PRECAUTIONS & DFG RULES

When the Dorset Fungus Group are out on a foray we take extreme care to try and make sure that no one comes in to physical contact with the "undesirables" of the fungi world. Of an approximate number of 3,000 different species found in the UK there are only a very few types that can be very dangerous if taken internally. Indeed it can only take a very small part of some types of fungi to cause serious problems. Fortunately most people are very sensible about this and incidents of this kind are very rare in the UK, but in Europe they are more common. In the fungi world there are many "look-alikes" that can be mistaken for choice edibles and this is where the problem lies. In Europe many different kinds of mushrooms can be very popular culinary delights and collecting mistakes become inevitable.

For these reasons the Dorset Fungus Group have a set of rules for members and guests to abide by. These are set out below:

1. Heed all instructions given by the foray leader and always keep the foray leader(s) in sight when taking part in a foray.

2. Do not pick or touch anything without first seeking advice.

3. Always obey the countryside code at all times.

4. Never put anything in or near your mouth and always wash your hands after a foray.

5. Please supervise your children at all times.
